How do I use the Fillable PDFs and Google Docs for the Instruction Module Companions?

Updated on

This User Guide will describe best practices for assigning and receiving student work when using EduSmart's Fillable PDF and Google Doc Instruction Module Companions (IMCs).

-----------------------------------------------

Section 1:  Assigning Fillable PDF IMCs to Your Students

Step 1:  Navigate to the Instruction Module Companion (IMC) you want to use,

Step 2:  Select the Assign icon for the IMC you want to use and assign the IMC to your students through the EduSmart Platform.

Step 3:  Ask the students to log into their EduSmart accounts and find the assigned IMC on their EduSmart Dashboard and open it.

Step 4:  Ask the students to use the "Save" icon in the PDF viewer to save the document to their device or a local file folder.  Give the students instructions on any file naming conventions that you prefer.  Note that student cannot save the PDF document to the EduSmart platform.  Student can now open the PDF outside of the EduSmart platform and fill it out.  Please remind the students to save their work before they exit the document or close the PDF viewer.  If they do not save their changes, their work will be lost and cannot be recovered.

Alternate Step 4:  If the students begin filling out the PDF without first saving it to their device or a local file folder, they must remember to select the "Save with your changes" option before exiting the document.  Give the students instructions on any file naming conventions that you prefer.  If they fail to take this step to save their work, their work will be lost and cannot be recovered.

Step 5:  After students complete the IMC and save it, you will have to tell them how you want the completed document to be submitted to you for grading.  Note that there is no way for students to submit documents to you for grading via the EduSmart platform.  Common methods of submission to you may include email, class folder on your campus or district server. Google Classroom, etc.

Step 3:  Assign the IMC document to your students through Google Classroom.  Note that the Google Doc version of the IMC cannot be assigned to students via the EduSmart platform.

Step 4:  Students will complete the IMC inside of Google Classroom and submit it to you for grading through Google Classroom.  Note that there is no way for students to submit documents to you for grading via the EduSmart platform.
