How Do Students Submit an IMC – Student Version

Updated on

This User Guide will describe best practices for receiving student work when using EduSmart's Fillable PDF and Google Doc Instruction Module Companions (IMCs).

Teacher Assigns the IMC

When a teacher assigns an IMC, it will appear on the student’s EduSmart dashboard under “Your to do list.” The student will see entries labeled "IM Companion."

Student Access to IMC

  1. Log in to the student EduSmart account. Locate the IMC assignment on the student Dashboard and click to open it.
  2. A Teacher’s Instructions window will pop up. Follow the instructions (if any) and close the window by clicking on the cross button in the top right corner. The IMC will open as a fillable PDF (or a Google Doc).
  3. Save It Locally - Click the Save icon in the PDF viewer and download it to your device (e.g., laptop or tablet). Choose a clear file name that follows any naming convention provided by the teacher.

Complete the Work

  • Open the downloaded PDF (or Google Doc) in an external editor or PDF viewer.
  • Fill in all fields, type text, add drawings, etc.
  • Save regularly to ensure your edits are stored.

NOTE: If you forget to save first and start working directly in the platform viewer, make sure to select “Save with your changes” before closing. Otherwise, your work might be lost.

Submit the Finished File

  • After completing the IMC, return to EduSmart’s assignment page for that IMC.
  • Click “Submit” or “Upload”, then choose your saved file.
  • Confirm that the file you attached is the final, fully filled document.

Helpful Tips

  • Save early and often to avoid losing work.
  • Use proper file names (e.g. Samantha_Doss_IMC1.pdf) if your teacher specifies a naming format.
  • Double-check after uploading to ensure you've submitted the correct version.
